Dear Sailors,

NEW FIGURE HEAD EUROPA
A new figurehead now adorns EUROPA! The new figure head has already been installed in March 2010 and has visited the Tall Ships Challenge on the Great Lakes this summer. It replaces her previous one damaged by an iceberg while sailing in Antartica. After almost one year without figure head the ship returned to Ushuaia, Argentina for a new Antarctic season. During that season the figure head has been on board for measurements and changes during the stopovers between the Antarctic expeditions. This way she could leave Ushuaia in March with a new figure head on her way North. The designer and builder of the figure head is Lynx Guimond, who has been a ships carpenter on EUROPA in the past as well . For several months he has been busy creating the figure of Europa and God Zeus. Learn more about the Greek Mythology




SHIP & CREW
At this moment the ship has just left Lunenburg, Canada and is on her way to Southern Argentina. Before she left there was a short maintenance period for which quite a large number of crew was on board to get all the work done! 19 crew members in total worked on the rigging, hull and machinery. Even our block supplier George Ording flew over to help on the replacement of the Fore Topmast.



CENTENNIAL VOYAGE 2011
With EUROPA's Centennial next year, plans are being made to make a special voyage! If there is enough interest we would like to plan an expedition that starts on the Falkland Islands. We will visit South Georgia before heading to the White Continent. If possible there will also be a short stopover on the South Orkneys. The voyage will end in Ushuaia. It will be a 34 day trip starting around December 10th 2011 until January 12th 2012. If you are interested in this voyage please let us know through an e-mail. We will then keep you informed on our plans.

CAPE VERDE ISLANDS with the 'OOSTERSCHELDE'
As the Bark EUROPA is sailing a true winter adventure, you can step onboard of our colleague ship the ‘Oosterschelde’ for a more tropical destination: the Cape Verde Islands. From mid November 2010 until the end of January 2011 the ‘Oosterschelde’ sails six 12-day voyages around this remarkable archipelago. These voyages offer a good mix between active yet comfortable sailing in a beautiful sailing area and discovering a unique part of Africa! SIRIUS ON BOARD
Another new feature on board is Sirius, the ships dog of Captain Klaas and Cook Marianne. This fluffy sweetheart will follow his master wherever he goes on deck. Meanwhile he keeps a close watch!
