It was a wonderful summer full of Centennial celebrations: a birthday party in Hamburg, a function together with the 'Oosterschelde' in Harlingen and a crew party in Amsterdam. During the days of Open Ship everybody was welcome on board to take a closer look and admire the Grand Old Lady. We would like to thank you all  for the many birthday wishes , great stories and visits on board.

In this newsletter you can read more about the programme of next summer, the prize winners of the photo competition, voyages with the 'Oosterschelde' to the Cape Verdes and the information evening on our Antarctica voyages October 5th next.

And the winner is...
Prizes and applause for the winners of the photocompetition. A number of winners, even from outside The Netherlands, were able to collect their prize in person on September 11th last in Scheveningen, The Netherlands. The prizes: Polo shirts, art box and vouchers have been sent to the ones who could not attend this event. Please look at our website for the results of the photo competition.

Brand new
After the celebrational festivities the ship left to Zaandam, The Netherlands, for a maintanance period. A very busy period as the ship is sailing most of the time and some things just cannot be done out at sea! This time the yards of the fore mast were taken down and put on shore for several new layers of varnish. A new bob stay is installed as well as a new radar together with a new satellite communication system. The anchor winch is revised and a stronger gearbox is added. The old bilge and fire fighting pump is replaced by a stronger one. Furthermore new freezers and coolings are installed in the galley and bar. During the two weeks maintenance all crew worked very hard to get all the jobs done before the start of the voyage from Zaandam to Scheveningen. Let the voyage to the far South begin!

Feel free to join the Antarctica information evening on October 5th next. We will try to explain and tell about these wonderful 22 day voyages to the White Continent. Please let us know if you will be joining this evening. Contact us to receive a full programme and address details.

To Cabo Verde with the 'Oosterschelde'
Same as last year the ‘Oosterschelde’ will be on the Cape Verde Islands this winter. On November 2nd we set sail from Rotterdam to the Island Sal. Just like your time on EUROPA you will be part of the crew and you will join in on the watch system. The price for this 28 day voyage is € 1650.- per person (including meals, excluding transfer).

In Cabo Verde the 'Oosterschelde' will sail six 12 day voyages. These voyages offer a combination of active and comfortable sailing on board and are a wonderful way of discovering a very beautiful part of Africa. Departure dates: 30/11, 11/12, 22/12, 02/01, 13/01 en 24/01 Price: from € 1600.- per person (including meals, excluding transfer). Ask for the Cabo Verde brochure via info@oosterschelde.nl.

Bark EUROPA spring/summer 2012
The spring voyage 2012 starts in Cape Town. Via St Helena and Ascension Island the ship will sail to  St. Malo, France. Join the whole trip or sail on one of the legs. The full sailing schedule with the exact dates and fares will follow shortly on our website.
