Over the years the Bark EUROPA has made many friends, whom we keep in touch with through social media or encounter while sailing to many ports. Their support is very appreciated, whether it is through sponsoring youngsters, simply sharing experiences about the bark Europa or helping the ship to fund her maintenance! In the end we all want the same: to keep the EUROPA wandering the oceans for many more years. Therefore the Friends of EUROPA - fund is established and you can help!
Help to build a fund so we can welcome underprivileged youngsters on board on a Tall Ships Race or Ocean Crossing. Being a Friend of EUROPA you not only support young trainees but also the ship in her existence in the coming years. In April 2017 we had our first two 'Friends of EUROPA' trainees on board, Lotte and Matthijs from The Hague, the Netherlands. They kept us up to date of their adventure via our website and our social media channels. Upcoming May 2018 the next 'Friends of EUROPA' trainees will embark on board Bark EUROPA for an adventure of a lifetime from Cape Town to the Azores and from the Azores to Harlingen.
Captain Klaas Gaastra : "I know for sure that the Friends of the EUROPA-club is something that will be supported by many former guests. This initiative, started by two of our former trainees, is like a crown on all the hard work and effort put in by all crew and office staff to keep the ship sailing over the 7 oceans of the world.
After a successful Friends of EUROPA project last year, Douwe (18) and Maurits (24) will be the next youngsters who will sail with EUROPA on the ocean crossing from Cape Town to the Azores. You can follow their stories and videos on our Facebook! And not only that: we are also looking for youngsters from The Hague from 15 to 18 years old. Have a look at the short movie (in Dutch) where Douwe and Maurits encourage other youngsters from The Hague to sign up for the trip from the Azores to Harlingen!
