The maps of Erika Wasner

Since 1994 Bark EUROPA has sailed with an international crew; all part of the worldwide EUROPA family, and with every member their own story to tell. Today it is time to let Erika Wasner (currently living in New Zealand) tell her story and what she can create for you and the memory of your Antarctica voyage with Bark EUROPA.

"The first time I saw the Europa was during an open ship in Jacksonville, FL in Nov 2001. I asked to be volunteer crew for two weeks and sail the ship to Curacao; I ended up staying on board for the next 6 and a half months, sailing to Pusan, Korea! From that trip on, I was hooked, and sailed off-and-on as deckhand until 2009.
While on board, I drew many things for the ship, including the stuns'l diagram, the "Garbage in the Ocean" illustration in the Pirates and Mermaids, as well as countless charts showing our various routes. I met my husband Pepijn on board the Europa in Capetown, SA, and he encouraged me to begin drawing freelance after we stopped sailing. Since then, I have drawn many more charts, illustrations, and T-shirt designs for the Europa. The ship and her crew changed my life and my outlook, and together we made some of the best and most memorable adventures I can now share with my kids!"

We as Bark EUROPA have teamed up with Erika to make custom maps of your Antarctica trip. Yes, yours. Imagine a traditional sea chart showing your trip, every stop you made along the way, including a special memory from your trip, to hang on your wall. Here is an example of what your custom sea chart could look like. A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of the maps will go to the Bark EUROPA, in an effort to help keep her sailing to destinations across the globe and wander the oceans once more.
