Are you looking for a unique opportunity or are you a person who simply loves to see Tall Ships? You are all invited to be part of the Rendez-vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta. A Tall Ships fleet of up to forty vessels have come across the North Atlantic Ocean, to visit Canada. This epic event marks the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation through its founders and founding provinces.
Its racing time! The Bark Europa will be getting new trainees on board in the great city of Boston. From here a 450 mile race between the Tall Ships will take place. Along the way there is a good chance to spot whales, especially Stellwagen Bank is a hot spot for these gentle giants. We expect the finish line to be near the port of Canso. After the finish there might be time to explore the canal up to Canso a little bit further and visit one of the little French Islands in the middle of the water.
For the Race the watches will be divided and the tasks will be explained and appointed. Sailing at sea, especially during a race, is never boring. We wil be continuously busy with trimming the sails, manoeuvring, steering and navigating. Of course we have to keep a close eye on our other competitors. What are they doing? Do we need to get closer to the coast? Is the current stronger there? Or will we go east, for better wind? The one with the best tactic can win. Twice a day we are updated by the ships radio about the positions of all the contestants.
We gather all this information, work hard and almost without noticing we are growing as a team. We will do everything it takes to win! In the end, when we arrive in Charlottetown, we realise it is not about the destination but about the journey. No matter if we finish first or last, no one can take this experience from us.
In addition to the host race ports, the Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta will also visit a number of beautiful Canadian guest ports. The Guest Ports Programme is an opportunity to sample the hospitality of more than 31 different and beautiful Canadian guest ports in the region. Away from the high energy of racing and four-day host city festivities, it’s a chance for vessels to enjoy a pre-planned stop-over, and to take advantage of a programme of events and crew facilities which will be provided in each port.
During these stops, the Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta fleet, professional crew members and novice sailors (you?!) will be able to celebrate this great milestone anniversary and sample the vast and diverse maritime heritage that Canada has to offer.Optional reservation Booking form
