A Sunday at sea

MONDAY 6TH of June 2022  12.00 Ships time = Gmt.

It’s obvious now we are out of the DOLDRUMS

11 days Out from Ascension

08°-56'N : 030°-10'W

Course= - North-westerly - Close Hauled SB-tack

Wind =NEbyE 3, but yesterday and last night more NEbyN but since this morning we can steer 335°.

We are quite content with this course, not a straight course to Horta but that is impossible in this part of the Ocean where the NE trade winds rule. We have to struggle to about 30° North before we can even think of setting a direct course to the Azores.

Yesterday was a Sunday at sea so everybody was more or less relaxing and was only put to work if the ship or the handling of the sails needed them.

A lecture was given about the history of our ship that started off as a lightvessel in the river Elbe in 1911.

Some were reading books, playing chess or playing with Boreas.

Quite a fewlying flat out on deck and just gazing at the sails.

Today everything is normal again, I know that in quite a few countries this is also a public holiday (Whit Monday or 2e Pinksterdag) but we left the lighting flames behind us in the Doldrums.

Done 241hrs  1.352,5M =   5,6kts  Average,

Alles Wel

Mooi. De Europa vroeger en de Europa nu. Wat een groot verschil.
