Sailor Requirements
Get ready to sail

A sailing journey with Bark EUROPA is a rewarding and demanding experience, all sailors must meet certain physical and health requirements to ensure a safe and enjoyable adventure on board.
Health and physical fitness
Bark EUROPA voyages call for excellent fitness and agility to make the most of life on board. From balancing on a rolling deck to climbing rope ladders and maneuvering in and out of zodiacs, physical strength and good health are essential for safety and enjoyment.
Swimming
Being comfortable in the water is essential, especially for safely boarding and disembarking from zodiacs before and after landings.
A good level of english
Clear communication is key, so a strong grasp of English is required to follow safety instructions and procedures on board.
Health statement for sailors aged 65+
For those 65 and older, a health statement from a doctor is required to confirm physical readiness. This step ensures personal safety and contributes to a safe onboard environment.
Medical care and limitations
Basic first aid and emergency supplies are available on board, but extensive medical care is limited. Given the remoteness of many destinations, access to medical facilities may not be available. If you have any health concerns, please consult us before booking.
Age limits
At Bark EUROPA, we warmly welcome sailors between the ages of 15 and 72 to join our voyages, including ocean crossings and Antarctica expeditions. All those under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Please contact the shipping office to discuss the possibilities.
To ensure the safety and comfort of all on board, the upper age limit for new guests is 72 at the time of embarkation. Guests who turn 73 during the voyage are welcome to join.
Sailors aged 73 to 75 who have recently sailed with us may be considered for shorter coastal voyages, when healthy and fit, based on individual assessment.
