Captain Moritz is a very experienced sailor, who sailed for many years with the Stad Amsterdam.
Born in Germany and now living in Hamburg, Moritz first fell in love with sailing back in 1992, which sparked a lifelong journey at sea. He pursued his dream by attending the nautical college in Enkhuizen, where he earned his international papers, and has since built an impressive career sailing on various iconic vessels, including the Loth Loriën, Atlantis, Wylde Swan, and spending eight years on the Stad Amsterdam. His vast experience aboard these ships has made him a skilled and confident leader, respected by the crew for both his knowledge and his capable presence in any situation.
His passion for sailing is matched only by his love of music—he enjoys playing guitar and singing, often sharing his musical talents with the crew, adding another layer of camaraderie to life on the ship. When he’s not sailing, Moritz stays active with a variety of outdoor activities, including climbing, running, and occasionally playing football.
Could you tell us about a unique destination you've visited on board EUROPA and what made it special?
Antarctica. The vastness and emptiness of the place is very special.
