Sara Källvik - Bark EUROPA

Originally from Sweden, Sara has embraced life in various places, including Amsterdam, where she attended the Enkhuizen Maritime Academy, before returning to her hometown of Göteborg. Her international background and diverse experiences make her a valuable, well-rounded member of the crew.

Sara is a warm and driven person, with a deep passion for sailing and a love for life's simpler pleasures, like knitting or forest work. At 27 years old, she already brings a lot of sailing experience to Bark Europa, having sailed on various Tall Ships throughout her career. Originally from Sweden, Sara spent some time living in Amsterdam, where she attended the Enkhuizen Zeevaart School, before moving back to Göteborg. Her international experiences, combined with her strong foundation in sailing, give her a broad perspective and make her a great member of the crew.

Sara is currently continuing her studies to earn her papers and sail as an officer, gaining the knowledge and skills necessary for leadership on the water.

When she’s not at sea, Sara loves to embrace the outdoors, with a particular fondness for country skiing. She’s also a talented knitter and enjoys beer brewing and baking. In addition to her love of nature and crafts, Sara has a social side and enjoys unwinding by meeting up with friends at a local pub.

Could you tell us about a unique destination you've visited on board EUROPA and what made it special?
Arriving in Antarctica after crossing the drake passage and seeing (smelling) penguins for the first time.

What's the most memorable moment you've experienced while sailing on Bark EUROPA?
We arranged ice curling on deck, during the Atlantic crossing from Cape Town to Uruguay. An odd kind of game on a rolling ship in the Atlantic summer, but very enyojable.

What is the most important lesson you've learned from your experiences on Bark EUROPA?
Wear high boots in the drake passage!
