As a deckhand on Bark EUROPA, you won't miss out on the action on deck! Sailing a traditional tall ship will require skills, teamwork and dedication. Sailing is our passion, but cleaning is also a core part of life on board. Deckhands assist with all aspects of the vessel operation, from handling sails, involving the guests in your daily practices, giving sail training lessons and keeping the decks in top condition. Duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for sail maneuvering and navigational tasks 
  • Demonstrating competence in safe rope handling and situational awareness
  • Actively promoting sail training to our trainees/guests 
  • Performs cleaning- and galley duties
  • Performs maintenance jobs and reports to the bosun

Qualifications and requirements 

  • A minimum of 1 year experience on sailing ships  
  • Guest-focused, service-oriented, positive personality and professional appearance
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Willingness to take responsibility and be flexible
  • Ability to participate in emergency response plan
  • Being a team player
  • Comfortable living in close quarters with others sailors

Minimum required certificates

  1. Dutch seamansbook or seamansbook recognized by the Dutch authorities
  2. Seafarer’s medical certificate
