Meike grew up on a sailing ship in Loosdrecht, surrounded by a creative community with a shipyard and a sailing school. In spring 2025, Meike joined the ship in Walvis Bay, Namibia for the first time.
She started sailing in an Optimist at the age of seven and has remained active at the sailing school ever since, where she also enjoys teaching.
During high school, she joined the Wylde Swan as a trainee and fell in love with tall ships. After graduation, she decided to take a gap year to sail on bigger ships, which led her to join the Stad Amsterdam. What started as a gap year turned into 2.5 years of working on board. Next to sailing, she is currently studying at Enkhuizen Zeevaartschool.
Meike enjoys making music with friends, knitting, spending time at bars, and traveling.
