Waves passing in the night
A poem written on board Bark EUROPA by Connor Young
red, white, blue
blue, red, white
white, blue, red
watch teams rotate
in and out
like waves
passing in the night
teams of twelve
who were strangers
just two days ago
work together
setting sails
watching for whales
manning the helm
till the next wave arrives
and in the drake
the whole ship shakes
and the teams
exit the deckhouse
in the crashing waves
and pouring rain
they pull every line
and make fast
and after the drake
their prize awaits
and land quickly appears
penguins and mountains
orcas and icebergs
all painting a picture
of paradise
but all paradise
must come to
an end
and red, white, blue
begins again
teams of twelve
like family now
work together
setting sails
watching for whales
manning the helm
till the next wave arrives
