Cruising in Antarctica

Our expedition guides and expedition leader bring the wonders of Antarctica to life. They guide our guests through icy landscapes, share their knowledge about Antarctic wildlife and ecosystems and ensure the safety during landings and zodiac tours. Our expedition guides are integrated in our crew and also help out with galley and cleaning duties. Having a deep expertise on the polar regions and environmental stewardship, they deliver an unforgettable experience for our guests on Bark EUROPA.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Sharing your knowledge enthusiastically with the guests, engage them in active research opportunities and create unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime experience for everyone on board.
  • You will be working in a small team and as Bark Europa will need to adjust her program to the weather conditions, flexibility will also be a key feature of being a good expedition guide.
  • Organize and execute guest activities safely and effectively.
  • Promote safe working practices and procedures among guests and guides
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, IAATO and local regulations

Qualifications and requirements 

  • We will ask for a degree and work experience in subjects relevant to Antarctica, ocean sciences or special field knowledge. 
  • Experience with small boat driving (zodiacs) is recommended 
  • Guest-focused, service-oriented, positive personality and professional appearance.
  • Good in guests management during landings
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Must be able to handle complex situations, including managing interactions with guests.
  • Knowledge of the Antarctic Peninsula
  • Previous maritime experience is an advantage.

Minimum required certificates

  1. Dutch seamansbook or seamansbook recognized by the Dutch authorities
  2. Seafarer’s medical certificate
