The galley is the heart of life on board Bark EUROPA, where our cook and cook's mate play a crucial role in keeping the crew and voyage crew happy through every adventure. Responsible for planning and preparing nutritious, satisfying meals at sea, the cook team works creatively within the challenges of a moving, compact kitchen. This page outlines the duties and responsibilities for our cook and cook's mate.

Duties and responsibilities of the cook

  • Ensure safe, quality food production, and to create a friendly, guest-oriented service
  • Work closely with the cook’s assistant in order to accomplish tasks related to preparations, inventory and equipment control
  • Responsible for ordering food & beverages
  • Communication with HQ to discuss food preferences and allergies 

Duties and responsibilities of the cook and cooks assistant

  • Responsible for the preparation of daily meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) for crew and guests.
  • Responsible for the general cleanliness of the galley, storage and interior  
  • Performs cleaning duties and supervises cabin cleaning routines
  • Stock and quality control of the food & beverages on board

Qualifications of the cook and cooks assistant

  • Cook: A minimum of 2 years of experience as Chef.
  • Cooks assistant: A minimum of 2 years in cooking and/or hospitality
  • Previous maritime experience is an advantage.
  • Guest-focused, service-oriented, positive personality and professional appearance.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Maintain a clean working area in compliance with HACCP rules and company standards. 
  • Must be able to handle complex situations, including managing interactions with guests.
  • Thrives in a varied and hectic working day.
  • Able to deal with physical workload.
  • Able to work long hours per day, seven days a week.

Minimum required certificates

  1. Dutch seamansbook or seamans book recognized by the Dutch authorities
  2. Seafarer’s medical certificate
