Become a crewmember
As the ship's doctor on board, you provide medical care to our crew and guests during remote ocean voyages and Antarctica expeditions. You are responsible for handling a wide range of medical needs, from routine health checks and giving our (voyage) crew a peace of mind during seasickness, to emergency care. The ships doctor ensures a safe and supportive environment on board. This role requires a high level of adaptability, strong decision-making skills and experience in remote environments.
Duties and responsibilities
- Provide medical services to guests and crew as required.
- Administrative duties (medical reports and stock control)
- Maintain and update onboard medical inventory as required
- Assist with other duties on board, such as sail handling, cleaning activities or helping out in the galley.
- Provide medical assistance during shore visits
Qualifications and requirements
- Official medical degree (M.D.), preference for Dutch doctors with valid BIG registration
- A minimum of 5 years of recent experience
- Recent experience as GP is an advantage
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- Must be able to handle complex situations, including managing interactions with guests.
- Previous maritime experience is an advantage.
Minimum required certificates
- Dutch seamansbook or seamansbook recognized by the Dutch authorities
- Seafarer’s medical certificate
