I, of course, was very excited to travel to the remote and mysterious continent of Antarctica. With equal anticipation, I viewed the Europa as the perfect vessel to take me there. But what intrigued me the most was what international group of sailors and searchers would be aboard this ship. I knew that the pros would be some of the best, since the voyage includes one of the most challenging passages in the sailor’s oeuvre. I knew that the group would be well travelled, since Antarctica is not usually ones’ first trip out of the gate; It seemed that for most
people, this would be the 7th continent feather in their cap.

Now that I am securely on board the ship, it is safe to say that it has been a fascinating experience meeting them all. They are well read, well spoken, great photographers and very skilled sailors. I have received some solid business advice, enjoyed watching couples deepen their bond with this shared experience, admired the other individual female travelers, marveled at the skill and discipline of the Europa team, and just downright enjoyed the food.

Whether on ship, on land, or in the deckhouse bar, I have always taken away something of value. In this day and age, 22 days (plus travel!) is a lot to ask of someone. So I am grateful to each and everyone of us for investing in our sense of adventure and our thirst for knowledge beyond our grasp.
