Leentje Bark EUROPA

Leentje is Bark EUROPA’s Antarctic Program Director and Senior Advisor. Leentje lives in both Ushuaia, Argentina and Friesland, The Netherlands. She is the eyes and ears for our Antarctic program living in the heart of Ushuaia.

Leentje is the heart of Bark EUROPA’s Antarctic Expeditions, a natural leader who works tirelessly to ensure all voyages sail smoothly throughout the season. Her inner strength and dedication keep the team cohesive and resilient, even during challenging times.

Splitting her time between the Netherlands, where she’s from, and Ushuaia, where she partly resides, Leentje skillfully balances her leadership responsibilities with her role as a mother to her young daughter. Her location in Ushuaia is especially valuable during the ship’s port calls in the Antarctic season, ensuring smooth operations and strong ties between the team and the vessel.

Leentje is actively involved in several IAATO committees, championing sustainable initiatives and contributing to a stronger connection between the Antarctic fleet and the Southern Gateways. Her commitment to sustainability aligns with Bark EUROPA’s mission to foster responsible exploration of the world’s most pristine places.

When she’s not at work, Leentje is drawn to the outdoors. Whether hiking through breathtaking landscapes, skiing in the winter, or exploring the remote wilderness of Tierra del Fuego, she finds inspiration and balance in nature’s beauty.

Having explored the far corners of Ushuaia and Tierra del Fuego, Leentje recently founded Estancia Las Loicas, a reflection of her love for the region and her deep knowledge of its hidden gems.
