After almost 2 weeks at sea, volcanic peaks will rise from the horizon, marking our arrival to the Galápagos, a remote archipelago teeming with life found nowhere else on Earth. Over the course of a week, we will explore several of the islands, each with its own character, landscapes and wildlife.

Embarkation in Callao

Your adventure begins in the port of Callao, Peru's gateway to the Pacific. When it’s time for embarkation, look for the three masts and the EUROPA flag flying high. The crew will welcome you on board and guide you through the first steps of life at sea.

After settling into your cabin, you’ll meet your fellow voyage crew for introductions, safety instructions, and a briefing about the days ahead. Soon after, lines are cast off, sails are set, and the open ocean awaits. The adventure begins.

Disembarkation in the Galápagos

After two weeks at sea and one week of exploring the Galapagos, the voyage comes to an end. Together we’ll have shared ocean sunsets, steady trade winds, the most remarkable encounters with wildlife and the laughter of new friends made along the way.

Disembarkation takes place on Santa Cruz Island, in the heart of the Galápagos archipelago. With minds expanded and hearts full, it’s time to say goodbye to Bark EUROPA, until the next voyage.

Route

Between Callao, Peru, and the Galápagos Islands, the influence of the Humboldt Current still lingers, carrying cool, nutrient-rich waters that sustain abundant marine life along the coast. As we sail northwest, these currents gradually give way to warmer equatorial waters, marking a shift in both climate and sea life. Dolphins may play in the bow wave, seabirds wheel above the rigging, and the ocean slowly deepens into a rich cobalt blue as we near the tropics.

The total sailing distance is approximately 1,030 nautical miles, shaped entirely by wind and weather.

Welcome on board

From nearly all corners of the world, our guests will arrive in Callao. Your Pacific voyage will finally start. Embarking via our gangway, you will be welcomed by our crew members. You will be asked to sign in on board and take the luggage to your assigned cabin, followed by a first meeting to introduce the captain and crew to the voyage crew before enjoying your first meal on board. These will be the first exciting moments of your time on board. A first glance of who you will be sharing your experience with. They will be solo travellers, friends or couples, young and old, from various countries and with different backgrounds, all united in their dream of sailing the Pacific on a tallship.

Life on board

For some people on board it will be their first time on a tall ship, while others will have done similar journeys. This mix of beginners and more experienced tall ship lovers creates a learning atmosphere on board, where each person can contribute in their own way to keep the ship sailing. Soon after we have cast of our mooring lines, the watch schedule will begin. You will be placed in the Red - White or Blue watch. Each watch will take turns in being 4 hours on watch, to stand on lookout, steer the ship and help with sail handling.

This ocean voyage offers you a chance to get a first glance of the theory and practice of tall ship sailing and all that it entails - sail handling, rigging, maintenance, navigation and much more. From day one, our experience permanent crew will start to teach you all there is to know about square rig sailing. We'll have time to dive a little deeper into the first basics of sailing a square rigger.

The Enchanted Isles: Galápagos

Located nearly 1 000 km off the coast of Ecuador, the Galápagos Islands are a living laboratory of evolution. Shaped by volcanic forces and isolated by ocean currents, they are home to unique species found nowhere else on Earth, from marine iguanas to flightless cormorants.

Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Galápagos remain a symbol of nature’s creativity and resilience. To arrive here by sail, after a true ocean passage, is a rare and unforgettable privilege.

Exploring the Galapagos

Once the islands appear on the horizon, we will explore several of the islands: San Cristobal, Floreana, Isabela and Santa Cruz. Zodiac rides and shore landings bring you face to face with the regions's remarkable wildlife: walk among giant tortoises and blue footed boobies, snorkel alongside manta rays and sea turtles and witness sea lions basking on black lava rocks. Every landing offers something new.

Disembarkation in Santa Cruz, Galapagos

After exploring the islands, we conclude with disembarkation on Santa Cruz Island, where you can continue your journey in the Galapagos on your own or fly onward to the mainland. Time to say goodbye to your newfound friends and Bark EUROPA.

This voyage was the experience of a life time for me, it was absolutely amazing. I learnt a lot about sailing, other people and myself. The camaraderie between voyage crew and permanent crew was outstanding in all circumstances. The food was great, healthy tasty and every day different, there were very few dishes which were repeated in 46 days on board! We lived together in close quarters but because of the different watches and different sleeping time it never felt crowded.

The whole trip was just amazing. From the crew to the food to the ship. It was my second voyage on The Europa and would happily do a third. I would however recommend if I may that perhaps a word to everyone at the beginning of each leg about not taking ropes off or pushing in in front of female crew members. We are there too for the whole experience not just to paint our nails. Every member of the female voyage crew experienced this and some of the crew as well. I did point this out to the Captain who took this on board immediately and spoke to her crew for which I was very thankful.

Sailing into the Pacific: Callao - Galápagos

Embark on a unique voyage that carries you north from Peru’s coast into the equatorial Pacific, ending among the volcanic wonders of the Galápagos Islands. This journey combines the challenge of an ocean passage with the reward of exploring one of the planet’s most remarkable archipelagos for a week.

As we sail north-westward from the coast of Peru, the shoreline soon fades astern and the vast Pacific opens ahead. In these nutrient-rich waters, marine life thrives: dolphins, seabirds, and occasionally whales accompany us on our way toward the Galápagos Islands.

Upon arrival in the Galápagos Islands, we will be guided by local experts who will share their deep knowledge of the region’s extraordinary wildlife, ecosystems, and culture. These local guides will join us on board for the duration of our time in the Galápagos, making every landing and sailing moment part of a complete adventure.

FAQ

Is sailing experience required?

When you decide to join us one of our voyages, you will be doing so as part of the voyage crew. This means that EUROPA’s permanent crew will train you to be a sailor. No experience is needed, our crew will learn you everything along the way. Everyone is welcome to take the helm, set sails, assist with maneuvers, navigation, weather observations, furling the sails on the yards and much more. The permanent crew will give lectures and instruct you during the voyage in steering, navigation and sail handling. This will be done in a ‘Dutch’ style, so without yelling, blowing whistles or uniforms.

What does an optional reservation entail?

If you are interested in a specific voyage and you cannot decide immediately or if you have to make any necessary arrangements we can block a bunk for you for two weeks. That way you will have some time to decide without the risk of losing your berth. Please let us know in which voyage you are interested and how many bunks (male or female) you would like to block and if you prefer a 2-person cabin (can only be booked by couples or duo’s) or a bunk in a 4/6-person cabin. We will contact you as soon as possible to confirm your optional reservation.

 

How can I make a booking?

You are welcome to send in your booking form via our website as soon as you are ready for the adventure! Choose your voyage in the sailing schedule, scroll down to the date you wish to sail with us and click the 'Book now' button. You adventure is just a view clicks away!

What can I expect regarding the food onboard?

When you're out at sea, our galley is always busy preparing delicious meals to keep everyone well-fed. Our experienced cook and cook’s assistant take care of all meals on board, surprising our voyage crew with a variety of dishes made with local ingredients from the ports we visit. We offer both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. When you book your voyage, you can choose your meal preference to ensure everything is arranged in advance. In what sort of cabin will I sleep?

Bark EUROPA has 4/6 persons cabins and 2 persons cabins for the voyage crew. If you join us with a travel partner, you can choose for a 2 persons cabin or to be placed in a 4/6 persons shared cabin. As a solo traveler you will be placed in a 4/6 persons male or female cabin.
Every cabin has his own bathroom with shower and toilet.
