Our voyage begins in Easter Island, Rapa Nui, where we set sail the next day to start our adventure into the open Pacific. During this voyage we will visit Pitcairn before we sail to the atoll of Fakarava and finally Tahiti. The rare possibility of sailing many seamiles and visiting some if the most wonderful islands in the world.

After leaving Easter Island, Rapa Nui, we will make a beautiful sailing leg across the deep blue Pacific Ocean. Many miles at sea await us, with starry nights and bright, sunny days. While on watch, you’ll be involved in sail handling, with plenty of time to enjoy the endless ocean. And there’s the rare chance to visit the islands of Pitcairn and the very remote atolls of Fakarava or Rangiroa!

Your adventure begins in Hanga Roa, Easter Island, the islands only town and harbor, surrounded by the mystery and beauty of this volcanic island. We encourage you to arrive a couple of days earlier, to explore the island on your own, discovering the legendary Moai statues and Polynesian culture that make Rapa Nui unforgettable. 

When it’s time for embarkation, look for the three masts of Bark EUROPA, your home for the weeks ahead. The crew will welcome you on board and guide you through the first steps of life on board.

After settling into your cabin, you’ll meet your fellow voyage crew for introductions, safety briefings, and an outline of the days to come.

After weeks at sea and visits to remote atolls and islands along the way, the voyage comes to an end in Tahiti. Life on board has been shaped by wind and waves, shared watches, and the steady rhythm of the ocean. Along the journey, friendships have formed that often continue well beyond the voyage itself.

Disembarkation takes place in Papeete, Tahiti, the gateway to French Polynesia. From here, a vast archipelago of islands awaits exploration: from nearby Moorea to the Society Islands, Tuamotus, and beyond. Whether continuing by boat, plane, or ferry, there are countless opportunities to discover lagoons, reefs, and island life at your own pace. It’s time to step ashore, say goodbye to EUROPA and fellow crew members, and begin the next chapter of your journey in French Polynesia.

Route

From the shores of the Easter Island we will set a western course into the Pacific, with Pitcairn ahead. About 10 days at sea with nothing but ocean and the people you spend your time on board with. Pitcairn’s steep shores demand respect, but the welcome is warm. It’s a place that feels out of time, where the world pauses.

From Pitcairn, the course bends northwest to Fakarava, a long and narrow atoll scattered like a string of pearls in the Tuamotu Archipelago. The entrance through the pass is a dance with currents. Inside, the lagoon glows in shades of turquoise and silver, its coral gardens alive with fish and light. Snorkeling here is a dream!

Finally, Tahiti rises ahead. After weeks at sea, its bustle and warmth feel both foreign and familiar. The island hums with life.

From nearly all corners of the world, our guests will arrive in Easter Island. Your Pacific voyage will finally start. A first glance of who you will be sharing your experience with. They will be solo travellers, friends or couples, young and old, from various countries and with different backgrounds, all united in their dream of sailing the Pacific on a tallship.

For some people on board it will be their first time on a tall ship, while others will have done similar journeys. This mix of beginners and more experienced tall ship lovers creates a learning atmosphere on board, where each person can contribute in their own way to keep the ship sailing. The next day, we will set course into the open ocean. Let the ocean sailing begin!

It’s time to hoist the sails and leave the Easter Island behind. The ship turns southwest, and the Pacific Ocean opens up before us. For the next weeks, life on board follows the rhythm of wind and waves: standing watch, trimming sails, learning the ropes under the guidance of our experienced permanent crew. Every day offers opportunities to practice seamanship, from handling lines to steering to navigating by the stars. This long voyage is not just a passage across the ocean, but also a chance to live fully at sea, immerse yourself in sailtraining and share in the camaraderie that makes life on board so memorable.

Visiting Pitcairn 

Sailing into Pitcairn feels like arriving at the edge of the world. The island rises steep and wild from the sea, its cliffs wrapped in mist and legend. The handful of people who call it home live simply, yet with a rare kind of depth. Their stories of the Bounty and life in such isolation remind you how courage and community can thrive even in the most remote corners of the earth. From there, the open ocean leads us to the atolls of French Polynesia.

Exploring the Tuamotu's

The Tuamotu Archipelago is a remote chain of coral atolls scattered across the Pacific, known for its clear lagoons, ocean passes, and rich marine life. Visiting by sailing ship offers a unique way to experience this quiet and vast region. Depending on conditions, the voyage may include stops at atolls such as Fakarava or Rangiroa, allowing time to explore the lagoons, enjoy the water, and experience the Tuamotus at a relaxed pace with Bark EUROPA.

This voyage was the experience of a life time for me, it was absolutely amazing. I learnt a lot about sailing, other people and myself. The camaraderie between voyage crew and permanent crew was outstanding in all circumstances. The food was great, healthy tasty and every day different, there were very few dishes which were repeated in 46 days on board! We lived together in close quarters but because of the different watches and different sleeping time it never felt crowded.

Sailing the Pacific: Rapa Nui to Tahiti

Embark on a unique voyage that begins with an ocean crossing toward Pitcairn and French Polynesia. Experience the rhythm of life on a tall ship, learning seamanship from the permanent crew, standing watch, and navigating by the stars.

This leg forms part of our full Pacific crossing, sailing from Peru to New Zealand, and carries you through weeks of open water toward remote islands and the mysterious cliffs and blue lagoons of French Polynesia, a destination as remote as it is breathtaking.

FAQ

Is sailing experience required?

When you decide to join us one of our voyages, you will be doing so as part of the voyage crew. This means that EUROPA’s permanent crew will train you to be a sailor. No experience is needed, our crew will learn you everything along the way. Everyone is welcome to take the helm, set sails, assist with maneuvers, navigation, weather observations, furling the sails on the yards and much more. The permanent crew will give lectures and instruct you during the voyage in steering, navigation and sail handling. This will be done in a ‘Dutch’ style, so without yelling, blowing whistles or uniforms.

What does an optional reservation entail?

If you are interested in a specific voyage and you cannot decide immediately or if you have to make any necessary arrangements we can block a bunk for you for two weeks. That way you will have some time to decide without the risk of losing your berth. Please let us know in which voyage you are interested and how many bunks (male or female) you would like to block and if you prefer a 2-person cabin (can only be booked by couples or duo’s) or a bunk in a 4/6-person cabin. We will contact you as soon as possible to confirm your optional reservation.

 

How can I make a booking?

You are welcome to send in your booking form via our website as soon as you are ready for the adventure! Choose your voyage in the sailing schedule, scroll down to the date you wish to sail with us and click the 'Book now' button. You adventure is just a view clicks away!

What can I expect regarding the food onboard?

When you're out at sea, our galley is always busy preparing delicious meals to keep everyone well-fed. Our experienced cook and cook’s assistant take care of all meals on board, surprising our voyage crew with a variety of dishes made with local ingredients from the ports we visit. We offer both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. When you book your voyage, you can choose your meal preference to ensure everything is arranged in advance. In what sort of cabin will I sleep?

Bark EUROPA has 4/6 persons cabins and 2 persons cabins for the voyage crew. If you join us with a travel partner, you can choose for a 2 persons cabin or to be placed in a 4/6 persons shared cabin. As a solo traveler you will be placed in a 4/6 persons male or female cabin.
Every cabin has his own bathroom with shower and toilet.
