Our voyage begins in the Galápagos, the Enchanted Isles, where we will spend a week exploring this extraordinary world of life and lava. We'll snorkel in clear waters, walk among curious wildlife, and feel the quiet awe of being in a place where nature reigns and the animals rule. Then, with sails set and the Galápagos fading on the horizon, we turn southwest into the open Pacific.

Your adventure begins in the Galápagos Islands, a world of volcanic landscapes and fearless wildlife. When it’s time for embarkation, look for the three masts of Bark EUROPA, your home for the weeks ahead. The crew will welcome you on board and guide you through the first steps of life on board.

After settling into your cabin, you’ll meet your fellow voyage crew for introductions, safety briefings, and an outline of the days to come. The first week is devoted to exploring the Galápagos, both ashore and at sea, snorkeling in clear waters, walking among giant tortoises and blue-footed boobies, and learning about the islands’ unique ecosystems.

After our departure from the Galapagos and sailing for nearly three weeks, the voyage draws to a close as we reach the remote shores of Rapa Nui, Easter Island. Each day was shaped by wind and wave and together we have embraced life at sea, building friendships that will last long after the voyage ends. 

We will disembark in Hanga Roa, the islands only town and harbor, surrounded by the mystery and beauty of this volcanic island. Time to step ashore and say goodbye to EUROPA, but don't forget to explore the island on your own, discovering the legendary Moai statues and Polynesian culture that make Rapa Nui unforgettable.

Route

From the shores of the Galapagos we set a course southwest into the Pacific, embarking on a true ocean passage. Almost three weeks of nothing but ocean and the people you spend your time on board with. The route takes us across open water, far from land, where the horizon stretches endlessly and is shaped by the southeast trade winds. The Equatorial Counter Current may influence our path as we leave the Galapagos, so careful navigation is key to staying on course while making the most of favorable conditions. After three weeks, the anticipation grows upon the arrival on the remote shores of Rapa Nui.

Welcome on board

From nearly all corners of the world, our guests will arrive in Santa Cruz, Galápagos. Your Pacific voyage will finally start. Embarking on board, you will be welcomed by our crew members. You will be asked to sign in and take the luggage to your assigned cabin, followed by a first meeting to introduce the captain and crew to the voyage crew before enjoying your first meal on board. These will be the first exciting moments of your time on board. A first glance of who you will be sharing your experience with. They will be solo travellers, friends or couples, young and old, from various countries and with different backgrounds, all united in their dream of sailing the Pacific on a tallship.

Life on board

For some people on board it will be their first time on a tall ship, while others will have done similar journeys. This mix of beginners and more experienced tall ship lovers creates a learning atmosphere on board, where each person can contribute in their own way to keep the ship sailing. The next day, we will head for our first island visit of the Galapagos: San Cristobal. Let the Galápagos exploration begin!

Located nearly 1000 km off the coast of Ecuador, the Galápagos Islands are a volcanic archipelago of 19 islands and over 100 islets. Home to giant tortoises, marine iguanas and blue footed boobies, many species exist nowhere else on Earth. Shaped by lava fields, pristine beaches and crystal clear waters, this is a land shaped by lava and the ocean. The surrounding marine reserve spans 133,000 km2, protecting one of the planet's most diverse and extraordinary ecosystems. To visits these islands with Bark EUROPA will be a rare and unforgettable privilege.

Exploring the Galápagos Islands

Over the course of a week, we will explore the remarkable islands of San Cristobal, Floreana and Isabela, each offering its own unique landscape and wildlife. Walk along golden beaches and spot the many sea lions, or spot the giant tortoises that are hidden in the green vegetation. Snorkel alongside marine iguanas and tropical fish and turtles, creating an experience you will never forget. 

Each day's landing is an opportunity to closely connect with nature, observe species that only live in the Galapagos and experience the diversity of the Galapagos wildlife that is so unique.

Sailing onwards

After a week exploring the Galápagos, it’s time to hoist the sails and leave the islands behind. The ship turns southwest, and the Pacific Ocean opens up before us. For the next three weeks, life on board follows the rhythm of wind and waves: standing watch, trimming sails, learning the ropes under the guidance of our experienced permanent crew. Every day offers opportunities to practice seamanship, from handling lines to steering to navigating by the stars. This long voyage is not just a passage across the ocean, but also a chance to live fully at sea, immerse yourself in sailtraining and share in the camaraderie that makes life on board so memorable.

As the horizon slowly hints at land, we arrive at the remote shores of Rapa Nui, the destination that truly makes this voyage even more unforgettable. Can you imagine arriving to the Moai statues of Rapa Nui on board Bark EUROPA? The next morning it is time to say goodbye to your newfound friends and to EUROPA.

Sailing into the Pacific: Galápagos - Rapa Nui

Embark on a unique voyage that begins with a week-long exploration of the wildlife-rich islands of the Galápagos, guided by local experts who will share their deep knowledge of the region’s extraordinary wildlife, ecosystems, and culture. These local guides will join us on board for the duration of our time in the Galápagos, making every landing and sailing moment part of a complete adventure.

After our exploration of the islands, the journey continues with a three-week ocean crossing towards Rapa Nui, Easter Island. Live the rhythm of life on a tall ship, learning seamanship from the permanent crew, standing watch, and navigating by the stars. 

Weeks of open water will finally bring us to the mysterious cliffs and cultural treasures of Easter Island, a destination as remote as it is breathtaking.

FAQ

Is sailing experience required?

When you decide to join us one of our voyages, you will be doing so as part of the voyage crew. This means that EUROPA’s permanent crew will train you to be a sailor. No experience is needed, our crew will learn you everything along the way. Everyone is welcome to take the helm, set sails, assist with maneuvers, navigation, weather observations, furling the sails on the yards and much more. The permanent crew will give lectures and instruct you during the voyage in steering, navigation and sail handling. This will be done in a ‘Dutch’ style, so without yelling, blowing whistles or uniforms.

What does an optional reservation entail?

If you are interested in a specific voyage and you cannot decide immediately or if you have to make any necessary arrangements we can block a bunk for you for two weeks. That way you will have some time to decide without the risk of losing your berth. Please let us know in which voyage you are interested and how many bunks (male or female) you would like to block and if you prefer a 2-person cabin (can only be booked by couples or duo’s) or a bunk in a 4/6-person cabin. We will contact you as soon as possible to confirm your optional reservation.

 

How can I make a booking?

You are welcome to send in your booking form via our website as soon as you are ready for the adventure! Choose your voyage in the sailing schedule, scroll down to the date you wish to sail with us and click the 'Book now' button. You adventure is just a view clicks away!

What can I expect regarding the food onboard?

When you're out at sea, our galley is always busy preparing delicious meals to keep everyone well-fed. Our experienced cook and cook’s assistant take care of all meals on board, surprising our voyage crew with a variety of dishes made with local ingredients from the ports we visit. We offer both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. When you book your voyage, you can choose your meal preference to ensure everything is arranged in advance. In what sort of cabin will I sleep?

Bark EUROPA has 4/6 persons cabins and 2 persons cabins for the voyage crew. If you join us with a travel partner, you can choose for a 2 persons cabin or to be placed in a 4/6 persons shared cabin. As a solo traveler you will be placed in a 4/6 persons male or female cabin.
Every cabin has his own bathroom with shower and toilet.
