A voyage through Polynesia: Tahiti to the Cook Islands
New voyage
A 19-day sailing adventure from Papeete to Rarotonga carries you across the storied heart of Polynesia. Under sun-warmed sails, Bark EUROPA sails westward on the trade winds, linking turquoise lagoons and emerald volcanic isles as we sail from Tahiti to the Cook Islands.
From French Polynesia’s sacred Society Islands to the far-flung Cook Islands, this voyage promises both poetic discovery and hands-on seamanship. Join a small crew of adventurers and experience the South Pacific as explorers of old – by wind, wave, and wonder.
Destination
Embarkation in Papeete
Your adventure begins in the port of Papeete, Tahiti’s bustling capital, set against emerald volcanic peaks. When it’s time to embark, look for Bark EUROPA’s three masts and the flag flying high above the dock, the unmistakable sign that your voyage is about to begin. The crew warmly welcomes you on board and guides you through the first steps of life at sea. The open ocean awaits as we leave Tahiti’s shores behind. With the sights of Papeete fading in the distance, the adventure begins.
Disembarkation in the Rarotonga
After nearly three weeks of ocean crossings and island explorations, our South Pacific voyage comes to an end. Together we will have shared ocean sunsets, steady trade winds, encounters with vibrant marine life, and the laughter of new friends made along the way. Each day at sea and each visit on land has woven memories that will last a lifetime. Disembarkation takes place on Rarotonga, the main island in the heart of the Cook Islands archipelago. With minds expanded and hearts full, it’s time to bid farewell to Bark EUROPA and her crew.
Route
Between Tahiti and Rarotonga, we sail westward across the warm expanse of the South Pacific. The voyage begins in Papeete, with time to explore the islands of the Society archipelago before departing for the Cook Islands. As we leave French Polynesia, the turquoise waters gradually give way to the deep cobalt blue of the open ocean.
Steady southeasterly trade winds fill the sails as we set course southwest, settling into the rhythm of a six-day ocean passage. After hundreds of miles under sail, land appears once more at Aitutaki, where we spend time exploring the Cook Islands. The journey concludes in Rarotonga where we prepare to disembark after days of island exploration and open-ocean sailing.
